| The GERPA 2009 meeting titled “MENA Gender and Economic Symposium: From Research to Action” will take place on November 17-20, 2009. This year’s event has been organized in collaboration with the Middle East Initiative at Harvard University and will be held at the Kennedy School. One of the main objectives of the meeting is to proceed with the dissemination of the GERPA research results and to elaborate a concrete and efficient strategy for the advocacy and the dissemination of the main research findings. In order to achieve this goal, the GERPA organization and the World Bank have decided to hold the GERPA conference with the annual meetings of the Arab Network for Gender and Development (@NGED) and the Persian Gender Network (PGN). These networks are other gender initiatives funded by the World Bank and executed by CAWTAR and consist largely of gender experts from other disciplines, parliamentarians and civil society. Altogether some 100 participants are expected to come to Harvard.
The program also offers to interested participants a 2-day advocacy workshop led by one of the world’s renowned experts, Dr. Marshal Ganz of Harvard University. It is hoped that this joint meeting bring together economists and non-economists and help building skills in cutting edge dissemination techniques. In addition, Harvard University’s Economics Department will host a lecture by Professor Gary Becker on Wednesday, November 18th while the Middle East Studies Department will host a lecture by Dr. Ismail Serageldin Director of the Library of Alexandria on Thursday, November 19th.
