"CAWTAR" participates in the preparatory meeting for the Global NGO Forum in Berlin, Germany
Within its endeavors to engage in development initiatives at international and regional levels , cawtar participated in efforts to implement the Plan of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development ( ICPD) , by attending the preparatory meeting for the Global NGO Forum, held in Berlin, Germany, during the period 02 -04 September 2009 under the slogan "sexual and reproductive health and development: investing in health and rights and the future" to the aim to setting up the process of ICPD +15,
The Center of Arab Women for Training and Research "CAWTAR", represented by its executive director, Dr. Soukeina Bouraoui, is a member of the Advisory Group which among other tasks has to prepare the ICPD +15 meeting to be hosted by the German Government, represented by the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Fund and the United Nations Population Fund. 15 non-governmental organizations across the world joined to contribute to the preparation of the ICPD +15 meeting.
The NGO Forum on reproductive and sexual health and development involved 400 participants in its activities and workshops, ensuring a broad participation of the South and young people, (225 participants are from the South and 25 percent under the age of 30 years). The forum provided opportunities to support and reinforce NGOs endeavors to access financial resources and gain political sustain in the areas of health and reproductive and sexual health.
The Forum focused on the major themes of the International Conference on Population and Development: sexual and reproductive health and rights, women's rights, HIV and AIDS, youth participation, gender equality ... The interactive meeting provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences , expertise and networking in the areas covered by the Forum.
This participation reflects CAWTAR’s will to address new development challenges and population issues trough partnering and building sustainable Joint programming with key actors and partners , aiming to achieve gender equity through the empowerment of women and youth, and to better share and disseminate knowledge and experiences on gender and development issues.
