CAWTAR will hold a debate workshop based on the short movie “Who is Fatima?” (produced by CAWTAR in 2010 ) in addition to select scenes from fictional films, documentaries and videos on the internet that reflect the stereotype image of women in the society and the importance of citizens’ participation in public and political life.
The debate workshop is organized in the framework of the project, ”Contribuer à la mise en valeur de l’image politique de la femme au Maroc, en Algerie et en Tunisie”, a UNDEF complementary to the project titled, “Strengthening women's leadership and participation of women in politics and decision-making process in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia”, implemented by former UN-INSTRAW (now UN Women) in partnership with CAWTAR.
By providing the participants with the necessary techniques and tools to decode media messages with a gender approach, this debate workshop aims to create a better understanding of media images portraying political and public life and their impact on public opinion, attitudes, and political choices. As well as to recognize the stereotypes of women in media.
It also aims to spread awareness of the importance of achieving equality between men and women in exercising civil duties, as well as the importance of participation in public and political life.
Youth, women and men from women and culture NGOs will take this opportunity to express their opinions on the participation of women and men in public and political life and the role of media in this issue during this 10-days event that will take place in several towns in Morocco (Casablanca, Agadir, Rabat, Marrakech) during the period of May 19th- June 6th, 2012.
Within the framework of the project, a study on citizen’s perception will be conducted. Thus, this concept will be addressed through filming the reactions of different spectators after the projection.
