Addiction can be defined as the body dependency on substance or habits from which the boy or girl gets physical and mental stimulation in such a way that he/she becomes unable to get rid of, instead in the absence of which the addicted starts to show physical and psychological symptoms of withdrawal such as (headache, irritation, tension, vomiting etc). Recomdation from CAWTAR's report |
|
The Arab Woman Development Report « Arab Adolescent Girl : Reality and Prospect” note that “Too few institutions, facilities and infrastructure for adolescent activities; those available for low income categories cost too much”.
Therefore, the report recommends
- The need to provide adequate facilities (clubs, associations, youth club, sport centres, entertainment and cultural activities) in areas near to where they live, especially rural and poor urban areas, to take in more young people and attract more girls
- The need to valorise the arts, spread general culture, legal concept, tolerance and respect for human rights, and care for and protect adolescents of both sexes, using to that end all available means (school, media, clubs, associations network).

|
Mustapha (14 years)
“I know that it causes cancer and that some people call for banning it. Yet, if I abandon it, I must smoke cigarettes and the pack costs 200 dinars. I would need at least four cigarettes a day while only one bag of local tobacco costs 2 dinars and enough for me. Even better, I could share it with my friends or any passer-by could give me one “sniff,” however it is very difficult for me to get a cigarette from anyone”. More |

Adolescents' Addiction to |
| Hallucinating Drugs (LCD) |
This drug has no medical uses. A single dose of this substance does not exceed 40 milligrams and leads to visual and audio hallucinations. It impairs the person’s ability to concentrate or function normally. These changes, which affect the physical and psychological state of adolescents, bring about an almost complete loss of awareness, making them dangerously threatened and exposed to fatal accidents. The lethal dose of this substance is estimated at 2 mg for per kg of the body. Because of the strong effect of small dose of this substance, the addicted makes use of patches or stickers after placing them in a solution of LCD. |
