Workshop on « Youth and Adolescents » March 29-30, 2007, Tunis

 

 

In the framework of coordination among different United Nations’ organizations and national institutions and civil society, a workshop was held to approve a national program document on “Youth and Adolescents” on March 29, 30, 2007, in Tunisia.


Dr. Heba Alkholy, UN Resident Representative along with other representatives of UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, UNDP and officials from different national ministries of health, education and Observatory of Youth attended the workshop and  approved the program document prepared jointly by by national experts and United Nations.




The main characteristic of the program is that it is designed to take into consideration the global and national context in order  to respond to the Tunisian’s youth and adolescents and to protect their human rights.
The Document  stems its relevance from the Tunisian government program and political will to enhance youth  participation in development process.


 

The program is operationalized with in the UNDF’s development plan for 2007-2011 which  aims to empower youth and adolescents to contribute to social development and efficient delivery of social services in relation to health and reproductive health.
The workshop focused on activities to be implemented under joint program on “Youth and Adolescents” for the next five years; the  role of UN organizations and  potential national partners; and allocated budget for program’s activities. These activities include: national workshops for specialized institutions, media campaigns,  training programs and annual reports in their totality to promote better conditions for youth and adolescents and harness partnerships in different relevant fields.
