Reasons behind increase in tobacco consumption in Sudan

 

Several factors are behind the high number of tobacco consumers in Sudan. These factors led to a constant increase in the number of addicted among adolescents and children. These reasons include:

  1. Resort to smoking as a social behavior especially among adolescents of both sexes
  2. Feeling of Completion of virility among youth and adolescents.
  3. Weak awareness of the dangers and bad effects of tobacco.
  4. Easy access to tobacco from other consumers
  5. Lack of commitment to tobacco control programs from the health and legal authorities
  6. Adding of narcotic substances to tobacco which leads to its abuse and the difficulty of abandoning it.
  7. The cheap prize of certain types of cigarettes and the possibility of selling them separately rather than on a full package.
  8. The sustained efforts of international and local tobacco companies to promote their products
  9. The apparent and attractive indication of   tobacco selling points in streets and markets
